Mercurial Faces of Venus

So, another birthday today. I am now 22. Not a year associated with a whole lot of hoopla, but hey. I don't sneeze at a birthday.

Presents received: A copy of Sam Peckinpah's Cross of Iron, some newspaper articles, junk food (including a bag of insanely tasty lemon-pepper potato chips), and a nice card, all of which came from my mother. From my grandmother came a check and another nice card. From my friends down here, I received a restaurant gift card. And for myself, I bought a copy of Season I of the television series Gargoyles. In short, it was a wholly satisfactory haul.

As for the day itself, it went quite fine. I skipped out on my internship that morning (and as I had nothing already planned at that point, it wasn't a huge concern) and slept in. After class that afternoon, the day went fairly sedately. I got together with some of my friends at Carrabba's and had a supremely delicious chicken parmesan, with a small bowl of ice cream to chase it down. The dinner could have been a bit better without two of my friends being tense towards each other, the result of an earlier argument, but things still went fairly pleasantly all the same. Afterwards, given that I did not feel like seeing a movie in a theater, as I had originally thought, we instead returned and some of us watched the first disc of Gargoyles. Such an excellent program.

And now, as there has been much fun-ness given to me on this day, I return some of it to whomever reads this. Assorted fluffy videos and such follows:

A while back, there was a fellow by the name of Chris Crocker, who released a tearful plea to the world to leave Britney Spears alone. Before him, a South American artist whose name escapes me at the moment released a truly touching and moving piece of hip-hop entitled "Chacarron Macarron."

Separately, they are fairly lulzy. However, the comedic power achieved in smashing the two together truly goes above and beyond either one just by themselves.

***

Move Your Dead Bones - A music video from the film Beyond Reanimator, it involves a catchy beat and undead gay zombie mimes. There's a furry version of this video, but I tend to like this original a bit more.

***

Ding, by Seeed - For a more hallucinatory furry experience, see this. The song is a combination of German reggae and hip-hop.

***

Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) - A happy little song, though it's been done to death in certain internet memes and videos.

An example of one of those videos can be found here, entitled Schindler's List Ruined!. You'll need a YouTube account to see this, but it's worthwhile to sign up. This ranks as one of the most politically incorrect things I've seen in a long while. If you laugh at this like I did, congratulations, I'll be seeing you on the bus ride to hell.

The next two aren't particularly funny, and don't involve music. However, they do involve a fairly rosy part of my childhood.

There was a show called Wings on the Discovery Channel when I was growing up. As the title implies, it dealt with various types of airplanes and other flying machines. My father would make tapes of these programs, which I then proceeded to watch a couple thousand times over the course of my youth. My favorite one of the lot, though, was an episode that discussed an airplane called the XB-70 Valkyrie. It remains my all-time favorite airplane, a truly fascinating machine, as well as being one of the most beautiful planes to ever take to the sky. I kept the tape of that program for years, but accidentally threw it out before heading off to college. However, some distant and undoubtedly kindred spirit uploaded the whole thing onto YouTube. The damn thing even as that same worn look that the old VHS had. 'Tis a really lucky find.

Wings: Great Planes - XB-70 Valkyrie, Part One.

Wings: Great Planes - XB-70 Valkyrie, Part Two.

The current music selection can be found here. If you like it well enough, you can download the rest of the tracks there. Even if you've never played Mega Man X, it's still good music (and this is coming from someone who typically doesn't go for that "smooth jazz" sort of music).

And that's about it for now. More will undoubtedly come later on. But, for now, I think it's time to spend a bit more time with Goliath and company.

Tranquility to you all!

BLUEBERRY MUFFIN EDIT: Apparently, the name of the one song is "Macarron Chacarron," and it is by the Panamanian artist El Chombo. Wikipedia is a fun tool!
